Customers praised the organic hojicha powder for its delicious roasted flavor profile. The powder works excellently in lattes with almond milk or oat milk, creating "dark chocolate with umami notes." Most found it very aromatic, especially at 85°C. One customer noted it's heavily roasted with fewer flavor complexities, though still excellent in lattes with sweetener.

FAQs

What is hojicha powder?

Hojicha (houjicha) is a traditional Japanese roasted green tea, and hojicha powder is the finely ground version of those roasted leaves. Unlike matcha, which is bright green and grassy, hojicha has a warm, reddish-brown color and a deep, toasty flavor with notes of caramel, nuts, and roasted grains and naturally low in caffeine.

What makes Matchasome's Organic Hojicha Powder special?

Our hojicha powder is crafted exclusively from first-harvest (ichibancha) leaves grown in Shizuoka, Japan — one of the country's most celebrated tea regions. Using only first-harvest leaves means the powder is made from the youngest, most flavorful tea of the year, resulting in a richer, smoother, and more complex roasted flavor.

How do I use hojicha powder?

Hojicha powder is wonderfully versatile. Whisk it with hot water for a traditional cup, steam it with milk for a cozy hojicha latte, or blend it into smoothies, ice cream, baked goods, and desserts. Its low caffeine content also makes it a perfect choice for evenings or for anyone sensitive to caffeine.
