Organic Ceremonial Single Cultivar Yame Matcha
Matchasome’s single-estate, single cultivar organic ceremonial-grade matcha is crafted from a small family-run tea farm in Yame, Fukuoka, in southern Japan. Saemidori cultivar is renowned for its mild astringency, natural sweetness, and umami flavor, making it a preferred choice to produce premium teas such as gyokuro and matcha. The name Saemidori translates to “vivid green,” a nod to its vibrant, bright green hue as opposed to the deeper, darker green of the renowned Okumidori cultivar.
Our Yame matcha is cultivated on a mountain at approximately 400 meters elevation, where the plants benefit from abundant sunlight throughout the day and well-drained soil. Over 45 years ago, the current farm owner’s father began cultivating tea without pesticides after falling ill, laying the foundation for the farm’s commitment to organic practices.
Yame is celebrated for its exceptional matcha due to its ideal climate, misty conditions, and nutrient-rich soils. With a long-standing tradition of tea cultivation and a focus on quality over quantity, Yame's limited production and export volume have kept it relatively lesser-known on the global stage. Nonetheless, its reputation for premium tea remains revered among connoisseurs.
