MATCHA MILLING SESSIONS ON TORSTRASSE

WE MILL THE FRESHEST MATCHA IN TOWN.

Some people buy limited edition sneakers, others a special racing bike or a new jacket from Prada. At Matchasome, we spend our money on our greatest passion: a traditional matcha stone mill from Kyoto.

Why? Because really good matcha isn't just a powder that's bottled somewhere. High-quality matcha is produced through a very slow, almost meditative process. And we're now bringing this very process to Berlin.

For our Berlin Blend, we've brought an original stone mill from Kyoto to Berlin and are now grinding matcha right here on Torstraße. The tencha leaves, i.e., the shaded tea leaves from which matcha is made, come from Kyoto, one of Japan's most traditional matcha regions. They are grown, harvested, and prepared there. But they are only ground here.

And extremely s-l-o-w-l-y.

A traditional matcha stone mill takes about an hour to grind 30 grams of matcha – exactly one tin. This is not a production error, but part of the quality. If you were to grind faster, the powder would become too warm and the aroma, color, and delicate umami notes would suffer. So slowness is exactly the point.

The result is matcha that has literally just been turned into powder. Matcha couldn't be any fresher. This makes us pretty sure that we are the first in Germany to grind matcha with a traditional stone mill right on site.

And because this process is so special, you can now experience it for yourself. For the Berlin Blend, you can book slots online to pick up your freshly ground matcha in person. When you come by, you can watch your matcha being ground and the freshly ground powder being bottled. Each tin also gets a personalized label with the name you want on it.

This suddenly turns a can of matcha into something quite personal: a small ritual, a very fresh product - and perhaps the most Berlin-like matcha souvenir you can find right now.
